Why Computer Slows Down to a Halt?
A common problem that users normally encounter when using a computer is that it slows down up to a point where the mouse sometimes go slow motion.
Yup, it’s a common thing in the windows system. The usual advise to alleviate the problem is to add some RAM (Random Access Memory). This seems to be a logical thing to do as before the CPU (Central Processing Unit) can process any program, Windows System included, the program must be loaded first into the RAM.
There are lot’s of program running behind the scenes in a typical windows environment. Some of which like the device driver softwares which needs to reside in the memory to run a particular hardware. Another could be a print spooler which runs as a background process to check any printer operation. The list could go a long way. Thus, Windows in itself can use up considerable amount of memory. Just imagine how the latest Windows Vista consumes memory compared to it’s predecessor Windows 95.
If you have other programs installed and active at the same time like virus scanners, browser, e-mail, word processor, etc.. you’ll for sure use up all your computer’s available RAM. Thus, computer slows down to a halt. If you wish on improving the computer’s performance, you better run some checks to see if you’re actually running low on physical memory.
If results point to low physical memory then in this case adding more RAM might be theĀ option. I’ll share to you some tips on how to monitor system’s memory use in the succeeding blogs.
