Unnecessary Font Causes Sluggish Windows Startup
Sluggish Windows startup drives user crazy. I am working on some project and needed to choose some unique fonts for a graphic banner. I pulled out one of my 1001 font collections CD and installed it in my PC. After installation I did a restart and whoa!
I am surprised. It seems like Windows is taking years to startup. So, when a friend who also likes to have collections of fonts whined about his Windows sluggish startup I gave a quick advise to remove the unnecessary fonts.
One of the things that we might start checking will be the “unnecessary” fonts. Which font will that be? Arial? Times New Roman? Verdana? Comic Sans? Oh don’t get me wrong it’s not with the font it’s the number of fonts loaded by the system. Windows loads the fonts specified in the Windows Font folder. Depending on the number of fonts contained in the Font folder Windows startup process will be greatly affected by fonts not being used.
Next time you find your Windows having a sluggish startup make a quick look on the fonts loaded by the system.
