Automate Launching of Frequently Visited Web Sites
A blogger have a set of frequently visited sites. Everyday when one turns on the computer we immediately open up our browser and start checking those important sites. A sample from ideasnpink of top six (6) frequently visited site.
Save the time in waiting for pages to load and effort in typing those URLs all over everyday. You can actually use a little help from Windows to automatically run the browser and open up all those sites or run your email program each time it boots.
Sounds good but how do we do this? By using the Windows Startup folder we could automate launching our programs.
Steps in creating automatic program launching: (Windows XP Professional)
- Click Start -> Control Panel
Control Panel window will be opened. - Double-click Taskbar and Start Menu
Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box will be opened. - Click Start Menu programs tab
Start Menu Programs tab sheet is shown. - Click radio button Classic Start Menu
- Click Customize button
Customize Classic Start Menu will be opened. - Click Add button
A Create Shortcut dialog box will be opened. - Click on the Browse button
A Browse for folder dialog window will be opened to facilitate locating the particular program that needs to be run. In this example we will run Mozilla’s Firefox during startup. - Double-click My Computer -> drive C:\ -> Program Files -> Scroll Down to Mozilla Firefox
- Double-click Mozilla Firefox -> Scroll Down to locate firefox.exe
- Click firefox.exe -> Ok button
What was done so far was the selection of the program to be run during start up which is firefox. Before we finally finish we can specify command line options here for the program selected. We can add at the end of “C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe” “www.techxplore.net” “simplepleasures.i.ph” to open the sites automatically.
After specifying the command line options we can now proceed. - Click Next button
Select Programs Folder dialog will be opened and scroll down to Start Menu -> Programs -> Startup. - Click Next button
Select a Title for the Program dialog box will be opened. Type the appropriate name example “firefox.exe” - Click Finish button -> Ok -> Apply -> Ok
We finally finish setting up firefox to open two (2) websites .. www.techxplore.net and simplepleasure.i.ph every time Windows will startup.
