Benchmark to Improve Computer Performance

Have you ever asked, how do I know if my computer is optimally running? You might not seem to mind or notice it especially with the computer hardware prices going down it’s easy to upgrade and have those extras wasted. What I mean of wasted is that it’s not used optimally. It’s like having a sports car in a heavy traffic city. Simply put it’s having in excess of what you might actually need.

To give you a little bit of background as we all know a computer is used to calculate, store, retreive and display data. Inside the computer data flows between processor, RAM, hard disk, graphic cards, network cards and other hardware devices. Outside we can see data flows across various ports of the computer to modems and networks.

Somewhere along the way when data flows are restricted in movement be it inside or outside what we have is a bottleneck in the system. Bottleneck’s are sometimes easy to spot and at times difficult too. To facilitate spotting and correction we need some tools and what we call this tools as benchmark programs.

The benchmark program is used to measure performance of a specific device such as CPU, disk drive, video card, network card and more. Benchmark programs could also perform a set of operation to simulate a task. This is to check the suitability of the system for video editing, programming, business, office, gaming, network server and more.

Running a benchmark will give you values pertaining to your computers capability. Knowing how your computer performs is good but it would be better if you can see also how other systems fare with the same test. That’s why most of the good benchmarking programs provide a way to compare results side by side with other systems.

Benchmark programs is a must if you would like to keep your computer systems attain optimum performance.
