Processor Overclocking is it Good?
Inside the CPU is a built-in clock that controls the CPU when it executes instructions. There is also a system bus which uses also a clock to coordinate the flow of data from the CPU, RAM, BIOS and all other chips within the chipset. System bus normally runs at a slower speed compared to the CPU. Manufactures have a practice of underating CPU’s and System bus to insure stability. This practice will also lengthen the chips life span. For example a processor which is capable of 2000MHz when installed at the PC is set at 1500MHz. Similary system bus that is capable of running 800Mhz is set to run at 500Mhz. Thus, the PC that we bought out of the box doesn’t really run on its full potential.
Aspiring techies would like to run their PC to its full potential without buying new hardware. They make experiments/tweak on their machines by adjusting the various CPU, bus speed or both to attain maximum system speeds. This is what tech people call as Over Clocking. One might get the improved performance inexpensively though they might buy additional fan to ward off excessive heat.
Over clocking is not for everyone. Those who don’t have the heart to allow mishaps to happen or those who are not ready to spend money will be disappointed. Sometime you end up having an improved system performance by replacing it with a new one.
