MacBook Air Is It Worth The Buy

MacBook AirApple announced in the recent 2008 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) the most awaited product MacBook Air. MacBook Air boast of being the thinnest computer note book there is. Though I have learnt that way back in 1998 there was a short lived laptop called Pedion which measures 18.4mm (0.7244 inch) from Mitsubishi. One could not expect everything from an ultrathin and ultrapotrable laptop to compete with the regular bodied laptop. There is a bit of shaving off that was done with MacBook Air to make it more thin and portable.

If we look at the specs of the MacBook Air it is good enough considering its size and weight. It sports a solid Inter Core 2 Duo processor, 2 GB of RAM and a 64GB Solid State Disk drive. MacBook Air has a 13.3-inch widescreen LED display, full-size keyboard, and large multi-touch trackpad. The oversize trackpad is really a technology wonder as it allows one varied gestures like pinch, swipe, or rotate. One can zoom in on text, advance through a photo album, or adjust an image just as what one would do in an iPod touch or iPhone. A first of it’s kind from a laptop. Some of the regular laptop facility like ethernet port or optical disk drive is missing, but it supports the fastest wireless networking protocol available. Thus, to communicate with the Internet it would rely on the built in WiFi or Bluetooth. Other standard stuff like USB 2.0 port, a headphone jack, and a micro-DVI port that supports DVI, VGA, composite, and S-video output are included.

All of these features do not come cheap. As usual Apple products are over priced and feature less. If one is determined to get a MacBook Air, it would be wise to get some Apple Store Coupons or PC Connection Coupons to save a little. If buying some laptop or computer component on the Internet the use of some coupon codes could generate savings of $100 or more. This is mostly true on expensive items like computer laptop such as MacBook Air.

Over all, I should say MacBook Air could be considered as a breakthrough laptop. I like MacBook Air, but it sure does depend on how one will gonna use it. Ultimately, it’s up to you, to decide on if MacBook Air is worth the buy.
