Lenovo ThinkPad X300 Challenges MacBook Air Laptop

The age of ultrathin and ultraportable laptops are coming. Consumer Electronics Show 2008 have seen Apple’s MacBook Air as the thinnest and lightest notebook. This signal for other companies to follow the lead. There are a number of much anticipated notebooks from competitor vying for the position. Top of the list contender is Lenovo ThinkPad X300.

Lenovo weighs around 2.93 pounds bare which packs more features comparedto Apple’s 3 pound MacBook Air. Lenovo features three USB drives and an ultrathin DVD burner, while MacBook Air has only one USB drive and no optical drive. Though, the ThinkPad X300 weighs about 3.13 pounds with a DVD-RW drive, the difference is very much minimal.

The thickness matters too. The ThinkPad X300 is a bigger compared to MacBook Air with 0.73 inches at its thinnest point by 0.92 inches at its thickest point. MacBook Air, remains to be the winner in thickness at 0.16 inches at its thinnest part and 0.76 inches at its thickest part.

This new model of ThinkPad uses much lesser power by 25 percent compared to its predecessors as it uses a 64G-byte solid-state storage drive and a 13.3-inch LED-backlit display. The ThinkPad X300 is powered by a lithium-polymer battery which is having better battery life than standard lithium batteries.

To challenge MacBook Air, ThinkPad X300 is planned to have a WiMax capability. It comes with wired and wireless networking capabilities. Integrated graphics, digital camera, touchpad, and trackpoint scrolling capabilities. It could support up to 4Gbytes of memory. The ThinkPad X300 is powered by Intel’s Core 2 Duo low-voltage chip which consumes like 12 watts power as compared to MacBook Air of 20 watts power usage.

The laptop market target are business users and consumers who are on the go. This could be ideal for business trips, conferences, real estate presentations, and a lot more. This is a featured pack laptop which makes the user more productive even with its size. The price of the ThinkPad X300 start at $2,799, not really cheap. Lenovo’s ThinkPad X300 is really a close challenger of Apple’s MacBook Air. Go pick your choice!
