Network Neutrality A Way To Save The Internet
People have the tendency to take for granted the value of the things that we enjoy every time. A good example of this is Internet. We’ve been using the Internet day in day out. We watch videos, listen to music, download documents, try software, send text messages and email, write blogs and a lot more.
Have we ever thought of how this things are made possible? All of these we enjoy because of the Internet’s Network Neutrality or Net Neutrality. This plainly means that there’s no discrimination of the Internet’s Network usage which in turn protects the user’s right to use the Internet without the interference or control of the network providers.
Without Net Neutrality, big telephone and cable companies will have the hand and say on which data, content, application or service will be accessible and at what speed or quality of service. Instead of having a neutral ground of use of the networks, big companies will be creating something like an express lane for their contents and services, but ordinary people will be left to use the slow lines. This implies that ordinary people will not be able to enjoy the same services that we are having right now like videos, music, Internet phone services without paying high fees.
As a response to the actions of the large telephone and cable companies there should be awareness for ordinary people about Net Neutrality. There are people already that have started making some custom yard signs to show solidarity in preserving the Internet.
Net neutrality have been the founding ingredients why the Internet have been successful as it is today. I just remember the squabble between COGENT and TELIA wherein everyone have been affected all throughout the world as a result of “not-peering” by those giant cable and network providers. Thus, without Net Neutrality the Internet will die. Help save the Internet inform friends by phone, write email, blog about it, put some lawn signs, spread the word about Net Neutrality.
Since, the elections in the US is coming then maybe one thing we could do is to support politicians who promote Net Neutrality by creating some political signs for them. Those are just ideas and you could add more to your creativity in saving the Internet. If we still want to enjoy the Internet in the future Net Neutrality is the way to go.
