Improving Computer Network With Right Twisted-Pair Cables

Computer servers are connected to each other to form a network of computers which we call Internet. There’s been a good emphasis on computer server performance, but ordinary users miss the point that network connectivity also have performance implications. As computer application software getting complex the files correspondingly becomes complex and bigger. Thus, there is a constant demand for increased band width to move larger files through the network.

We use various kinds of cables to connect network of computers like the CAT5 unshielded twisted pair (UTP), CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6, and fiber optic. The system also includes the use of jacks, wall plates, and other cable management products. Unshielded twisted-pair UTP cable is the most common networking cable being used. The common cable used since 1991 was the Category 5 (CAT5) cable which is a good, solid cable for 100-Mbps LANs. Most likely existing network installations use Category 5 cables. CAT5 handles both a mix of 10-Mbps equipment and 100-Mbps Fast Ethernet transmissions very well. If your transmitting data more than 100-Mbps then you might consider using a cable known as the Enhanced Category 5 or CAT5e which could cope up with full-duplex Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet operation. High performance use like data centers, blade servers, and tight spaces requires a much better cable like CAT6 or fiber optic cable.

The effects of using an ordinary cable to build large cabling infrastructure for our networks will have performance impacts. Long distance runs and noisy environments needs shielded cables. Thus, selecting the ideal cost effective twisted-pair cable for carrying data, audio, and video signals is very important.
