Flickering Desktop Computer Monitor

It’s inevitable that when you get to work in an IT field people think of you immediately when it comes to their computer concerns. Well, every now and then I got calls from friend who consult regarding their computer, be it software or hardware problem.

I was asked once about a computer monitor flickering problem and the various cause went into my mind. So, I started telling them that it might be because of refresh rate setting of the display monitor. I told them to increase refresh rate maybe from 60 Hz to 65 Hz and check and increase with another additional 5 Hz and check again. I just based it on my experience that when the monitor is flickering I sometimes adjust the refresh rate to a higher one and everything works fine.

That did not solve the problem as the colors are not giving the right colors. I was thinking then that maybe some video card problem; maybe it’s loose on the card slot. Since, the possibilities are difficult to diagnose and check on the phone I’ll told my friend that I’ll drop by if I’ve got time. I suggested that he should call some professional Computer Repair provider if it’s something urgent as I don’t have the time to visit him.

I later found out that the video card was broken and needs replacement. Things like this happen and it’s good to consult professionals as they could diagnose computer problems effectively.
