Exporting Browser Tables To MS Excel With “Export To Microsoft Excel” Button
In Windows environment, there is this feature to export to Microsoft Excel the data in tables that are shown from the browser. I was hoping to use this functionality, but I could not find the “Export to Microsoft Excel” command when I right click the table shown on the browser.
I have noted that this works only for Windows system with Internet Explorer browser used and a working MS Excel installed on the computer. I was wondering that even with the above requirements satisfied the “Export to Microsoft Excel” is still missing.
Have you ever encountered this scenario? Correcting this one needs a little tweaking on the Windows registry setting.
Warning: Tweak your registry settings at your own risk!!! I don’t provide guarantees on this. So back up your registry before changing anything on it.
Steps in adding an “Export to Microsoft Excel” button:
1. Add the button through Windows registry.
Click Start -> Run
On the Open text box type regedit
Click Ok
Registry editor window pops up and create the following registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt\Export to Microsoft Excel
2. Set the button to open using the Microsoft Excel program installed.
set the default value to
res://C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\OFFICE11\EXCEL.EXE/3000
Note: If you have installed Microsoft Excel on a different location kindly adjust the path consequently.
After doing the above steps you are now ready to export tables from websites opened with Internet Explorer to Microsoft Excel.

I already have “Export to Microsoft Excel” in my IE.
But when I click that, nothing happens.
My registry points to correct location of Excel.
Any clue why?
