What Happened To IT Outsourcing Talks
A couple of months ago outsourcing of the IT (Information Technology) unit was a hot topic. Everyone in the office are wary of what will happen next. Everything is still in the negotiation stage and anything could happen. There are major divisions in our unit which is the helpdesk or user support, network infrastructure and finally information systems.
It’s been rumored that the easiest to outsource is the information systems. Thus, all of us under that division are following closely the developments of the negotiations. It seems that the outsource company have limited experience in handling network infrastructure. Even though they have great pool of experts in the information systems and software development side; they would not be able to handle the whole IT unit competitively. Another barrier to outsourcing was they could not match a similar amount or offer a much lesser bid amount in maintaining the current application systems.
Success in outsourcing IT units depends on the over-all comprehensive solution to take over the current IT system. Normally, a local company within the vicinity is advisable. In New York for example, NY IT Services would be considered first as they might offer the fastest service during operations rather than call an outsource provider which is miles away. Finally, competitive service rates and over-all competency in handling the entire IT system is the key.
