Samsung’s Omnia Asia’s iPhone Contender
Apple’s iPhone was making waves and rave in US and in Europe. This month it debut in Japan market with very high consumer response. In spite of the success of iPhone there are many contenders. The closest contender in Asia is Samsung’s Omnia. Omnia also known as SGH i900, an HSDPA (High-Speed Download Packet Access) device is out to challenge Apple’s iPhone.
The phone comes with Office Mobile 6.1 upgrade which supports MS Office 2007 file formats. Omnia also features GSM quad-band frequency support, TV out, Wi-Fi module, FM tuner, USB, Bluetooth,8 GB/ 16 GB flash and external memory slot. Add the 5.2 Mega Pixel camera, 3.2 inch (400 x 240 resolution) display and GPRS to the long list of features.
The touch screen navigation is not yet that perfect. So, Samsung included an optical mouse similar to what you’d find on laptops to help out. If you’re not used to touch screen then be thankful as Omnia have hard keys for answering and hanging up a call. Omnia could well meet the regular business needs, but Apple’s iPhone is becoming a strong Pocket PC phone leader in Asia. Pick your choice, if it meets your need then it’s the best.
