Saving computer desktop or laptop computer energy is one thing we can do to help the environment. Not only that, but we also save money on it. This is very relevant with laptop’s as the power is drawn from the battery. In my Acer Travelmate, there even different power saving schemes for each type of laptop use. Tweaking settings on processor use, USB ports, and other devices which could be disabled if not used.

The power management software which is built in on the laptop controls when to shutdown the machine or put it into standby mode. The shutting down of the hard disk, display monitor, and other component when the laptop is on idle mode.

There’s a new software named Edison that facilitates the setting of these items for maximum savings of a desktop computer energy consumption. The software puts the computer into a state where it uses less energy somewhat like a hibernate mode. The downside of the software is that it only runs on Windows XP (Service Pack 2) or Windows Vista operating system. It requires a minimum of 256 Mb RAM, 7 Mb space, Internet Explorer 5.01, and additional of 280 Mb disk space if .NET 2.0 is not yet installed.

Edison is a free software which is around 28 Mb in size. You can download Edison power saving software from http://www.verdiem.com/edison/. Saving computer energy consumption would be easy as a single click.
