Power Failure Caused Crashed Hard Disk
Once lost things would never be the same. This is somehow true with the valuable data and information stored on a computer. A monthly or weekly data back up depending on the importance and frequency of update on your working files should be considered. But this is one of the most commonly overlooked things at the office.
I recalled of one incident where strong lightning and rain caused power failure in our office. This caught us far worst by surprise when the UPS have failed too. Usually the office computer is backed up only when the user feels like it. Really a bad practice. It’s not treated seriously as a server which needs daily, weekly, and monthly backups. The result was a dead hard disk. When the power kicked back again the computer would just display a blank screen.
All the important communications and work files are there; thus, Data Recovery was the only option we have then as there’s no back up for that office computer. We’ve spent some fortune on the data recovery; not counting the time we’ve needed to wait for the recovery service to be done. What’s thrilling is that the company doing it would not give any guarantees of fully recovering the data. There’s no other choice at that time. As a learning; today, we have UPS checked regularly, plus a regular back up of working data stored in the office computer. Crossing our fingers that we would be spared of similar situation in the future.
