Determining HP Jetdirect 175x Print Server IP Address After Moving To Another Network

HP Jetdirect 175x Print Server

Our Information Systems Unit office was moved to another building. We have lots of things to transfer to the new office. One of the things we need to move is the HP Deskjet 1200 printer together with HP Jetdirect 175x Fast Ethernet print server. I was worried that upon transfer we could not print anymore as the print server will have a different IP address.

Before moving my computer’s IP was 200.100.20.10 and the print server’s IP was 200.100.20.20. After moving to a different building the network IP where we belong changed. The new IP for my computer is now 200.100.50.10 and the print server’s IP is unknown yet. I have plugged already the print server to the network, but could not print as I don’t know yet the IP address.

To determine the print server’s new IP address, I plugged the HP Deskjet 1200 printer to the print server and turned it on. Put a paper on the printer then print a test page by pressing the printer’s test page button. The test page print out will have the information of the new HP Jetdirect 175x Print Server IP Address. After knowing the IP address of the print server, I changed my computer’s printer properties network setting to the new IP address.

Printing a test page from MS Word did work well. Well, it solved my concern for printing to the print server after moving.
