FireFox Add-On Error “This add-on will be disabled when Firefox is restarted”
I have upgraded my Firefox to the latest stable version, but it seems that most of my favorite plug-ins is not working. Checking on the add-ons window under tools menu has this error “This add-on will be disabled when Firefox is restarted. Not compatible with Firefox 3.0.3”.
The productivity of my browsing is greatly affected without those important Firefox extensions. It’s good that Firefox browser is very extensible. What I did was to disable the extensions.checkCompatibility option of the browser.
After restarting the browser, I could now use my favorite browser extension. Please take note that not all add-on might work with this kind of hack solution. In that case one will just need to wait for the add-on developer to work things out for compatibility with the latest release version of Firefox browser.

While you can certainly disable the compatibility check, you’re potentially compromising the stability of Firefox by allowing incompatible add-ons to run.
It seems that Firebug was your issue and I would bet that you installed it from the Firebug site directly. Unfortunately, past versions of Firebug, especially those installed from the Firebug main site, had an update URL which didn’t allow users to upgrade correctly. If you uninstall Firebug and reinstall it from addons.mozilla.org, your issues should disappear. I had the same experience myself.
