Acer Aspire One Windows XP Running Higher Resolution
The best things that I like in Acer’s Aspire One is the processor which is 1.6 GHz compared with HP’s Mininote 2133 which only runs at 1.0 GHz. The price also is a lot cheaper. There is a minor problem regarding the display. The 8.9 inch LCD led backlit is a good feature. One of the frustrating things that I have on Acer Aspire One is the display resolution. I discovered that it only runs on 1024 x 600 maximum resolution.
This means that the hardware could only support this kind of resolution. On the other hand one could actually adjust the resolution to a much higher setting to say 1024 x 768, but the problem with this is one will have to scroll the screen up or down to view the other parts of the window. If scrolling the display is not a problem with you then you might consider using the higher resolution display.
Steps on setting Acer Aspire One higher resolution display:
- Right click the blank space in the desktop
- Click the “Settings” tab
- Click “Advanced”
- A display and adapter properties window will open
- Click “Monitor” tab
- Uncheck “Hide modes that this monitor cannot display”
- Click apply
- Click “Adapter” tab
- Click on “List All Models…” button
- Select the desired resolution (e.g. 1024x768), color depth and frequency
- Click applies and ok
- Test the new settings
If everything works well and is acceptable to you then have it as your permanent Aspire One display resolution.

The only problem with this is that XP resets the resolution back to 1024x600 every time you log back into Windows…
December 5th, 2008 at 7:48 amHi just curious, if the aspire one is to be connected to an external LCD say 22 inch. How much would be the maximum resolution can it be set? Thanks..
December 8th, 2008 at 7:57 amIt seems that aspire one could get the maximum display setting for the specific monitor… example for a SyncMaster 743NX LCD 17 inch I could set as high as 1280 x 1024 pixels, True Color (32 bits).
