AVG Deleted Misidentified user32.dll As Trojan Cause Endless Reboot Cycle
Antivirus is a requirement in all computers that is being used in the campus network. Trend Micro is the official antivirus software in the institute that I work, but some still prefer those that are free like AVG Antivirus.
A few days ago AVG have identified an important Windows System file user32.dll as a generic Trojan virus. A choice of action upon the identification of a generic Trojan virus is the deletion of the file. Deleting this essential system file will make Windows unstable and will fall into endless reboot cycle.
It’s really a very dreadful thing for those who have used the AVG antivirus to remove the files. The security vendor AVG have already issued an apology on the misidentification of a primary Windows system file as malware. To show good faith on what have happened the company have sent recovery instructions and have offered free license and upgrade for people that have been affected.
This is tragic news for everyone and I hope that the error would not happen again. The software company AVG Technologies have repeatedly apologized for the error and put some steps to prevent similar occurrence in the future.
