Flying Bug-Size Spy Robots Military Technology
Military scientists are looking for bug-size technology spy robots as part of terrorist surveillance weapons. There is a great need to use technology in the area of surveillance to increase reliability of tactical information. Insect size spy robots would definitely minimize the casualty on the military personnel dealing with the terrorist.
I was shocked to hear the news of the recent terrorist attack in the main city district of Mumbai, India. The terrorist are really becoming bold in doing their plans. Multiple coordinated attacks on the hotels, restaurant, and train station show that this is a well prepared and thought of attack. I could see photos of police officers in their 5.11 Tactical pants moving around the vicinity to secure the place, battling the terrorists. This is the first time I have heard of such small group of armed men doing military style strategic operation. There are many people that died and wounded in the incident.
Technology could help a lot in preventing or curtailing this trend by having a reliable intelligence of terrorist movement. In cases like these a bug-size spy robot could go to the enemy camp which is not accessible to military service men. The micro-robots are though to operate in a swarm intelligence manner. A small group of robots have for example diverse individual functionality. There are those that pick up sounds, other records videos, while another sense chemical agents. The bug-size spy robots then send back the information to a Command Center Computer for processing information which could be used to help military personnel in assessing real battle field scenarios.
The micro-bug spy robots are designed to look like ordinary insects so that it would be difficult to spot them. They would be fueled by chemicals and not by batteries. I have even read an article about Japanese researchers showing controlled insect flier in the International Symposium on Flying Insects and Robots in Switzerland. The trends show that bug-size spy robots technology are not only a possibility, but a reality in the near future for military surveillance and reconnaissance purpose.
