Corrupted PHP Zend Component caused Decreased Apache/PHP Performance
Upgrades are important part of maintaining and streamlining a web hosting service. I have left my previous web hosting service due to unreliable performance. Frequent downtime happens without any advance announcement or information. I thought that changing web hosting provider would spare me from downtime troubles.
Anyway, my web hosting provider for www.techxplore.net has been hit by downtime too many times during the last quarter of 2008. Early this year, I thought all will be well and smooth, but I got this erratic web hosting performance. My site www.techxplore.net is sometime up and sometimes down for minutes or hours.
The only difference is that I am always informed of what is happening. I called customer support and got this clear explanation of the situation. The latest downtime is caused by corrupted PHP Zend Component as diagnosed by the Senior System Administrator. This component is actually placed for better functionality and security, but it caused Apache Server performance problem. Everything is actually a result of some upgrade in the web hosting features and services.
The problem was pro-actively corrected by conducting an emergency maintenance. I hope that the solution to the above problem is permanent and that there will be no more web hosting downtime in the near future.
