Portable audio and video players are popular to teens and adults alike. Studies show that there are thousands of games and millions of songs are downloaded every year. Apple’s iPod Touch a leader in the personal mobile gadget devices for playing videos, music, and games has not been spared of defects. There are customer complaints about easily scratched screens, over heating up, and others. This only reinforces the fact that technology is evolving and is not absolutely perfect.

I was surprised to read an article about Apple sued over an ipod that exploded. I think in the beginning that it would be most unlikely, knowing that Apple is a key player on this kind of product. This is not the first time that Apple, a leading computer technology and mobile gadget innovator has been sued (e.g. it was sued over faulty iMacs), whatever is the cause it must have definitely affected Apple’s reputation.

The seriousness of the accidents shows that there are some lapses by the ipod creator. Certainly they should be addressed immediately to prevent further injury to iPod Touch users. The incident has led to lower confidence in the products.

There are accounts that accidents ranging from bedroom fires to sparks while charging that are not properly reported. The investigation points to the faulty or substandard lithium ion battery used. This is a serious lapse on the part of Apple for not ensuring quality supply of materials and components in creating iPod Touch. Currently everything should be investigated. It would be good to know what the conditions that lead to the explosion are. The company of course has issued a comment on the matter, but I am more interested in the result of iPod Touch exploding case.
