Deleting Unknown INFCACHE.1 may Cause Computer System Instability

INFCACHE.1 Internal Windows File

INFCACHE.1 Internal Windows File

Keeping desktop computers in top shape need a regular disk clean up. Numerous unnecessary file littered on the system could cause disk access slowing. I have been looking for some big files that could be deleted to free some disk space on my Acer Aspire One laptop; hoping to speed up running of programs and system itself.

I found this INFCACHE.1 which appeared in different locations like C:WINDOWSinf, C:WINDOWSnldrv01, and more. Considering the space that I would recover; I particularly got interested in the 1GB+ size INFCACHE.1 file which is located in c:windowsinf folder. File Extension 1 does makes the file look like a malicious file. I have known of common file extensions like exe, com, inf, dll, etc. which are required to run system or application programs, but File Extension 1 is somehow rare.

I was tempted to delete the INFCACHE.1 file. Readings regarding computer files with File Extension 1 have revealed that they are files that are used internally by programs that generate them. I suspect that the INFCACHE.1 file shown under C:WINDOWSinf folder is a Windows XP system created file. Thus, deleting the file would most likely cause problem or crashing of Windows XP.

File Extension 1 are kind of unusual and could raise suspicion. I run the TrendMicro Antivirus Software to check the file, but it returned clean. The files maybe weird looking, but it would be best to leave them alone. They perfectly harmless files used in internal processing by computer software applications or computer operating system. Deleting unknown INFCACHE.1 may cause Computer System Instability.
