Antivirus Software for Dell PowerEdge 2550 Computer Server
We’ve used Dell PowerEdge 2550 computer server mainly to host MSSQL Database. After it crashed a couple of days ago; deploying it back includes putting the right security for data protection.
TrendMicro Antivirus Software is the usual computer virus protection that is being used; whether it’s a computer server or desktop computer TrendMicro is being installed. The reason for this is the institute wide license freely available.
Actually, any Antivirus Software is good enough as long as there is a computer virus protection installed. Thus, I could see sometime people using free edition AVG Anti-virus software or Kaspersky Antivirus. Users are more concerned of the Antivirus software impact on their computers especially if the computer is not high-end.
Especially for computer servers a good antivirus that takes minimal server resource is needed. There’s this VIPRE Antivirus Software which I come across lately that has a small imprint on the host computer. Computer memory usage during scanning for example is as little as 67Mb RAM as compared to more than triple of other major Antivirus Software. If you are interested you can try a 15-day working trial of VIPRE Antivirus before you decide on anything.
I have tried it on Dell PowerEdge 2550 computer server that I deployed and it really doesn’t take much resource. Caution should be taken though when trying out free Antivirus scanners as there are many malicious software out there that poses as a valid computer virus scanner.

The top antivirus software programs cost as little as 2 months internet connection. They all include constant and unlimited automatic updates that keep your system safe and clean. If you can afford $1500+ on a computer, $300+/year on internet connections, you can definitely afford another $50 once to make it safe (and prevent it from being used to spread viruses and Trojan horses behind your back).
