Upgrading Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2003 Server with MSSQL 7.0 Database

MSSQL 7.0 incompatible for Windows 2003

MSSQL 7.0 incompatible for Windows 2003

A computer server crash is an opportunity sometimes to think of upgrades. That’s what I was thinking after the Windows 2000 computer server that hosted MSSQL 7.0 Database crashed. It would be the right time to upgrade computer server operating system from Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2003 Server.

This sounds to be a straight forward thing to do, but during the process I encountered an error due to MSSQL 7.0 Database. A close check on the error shows that SQL 7.0 Database is not supported on Windows 2003 Server.

Clearly Microsoft does not support installing MSSQL 7.0 Database on Windows 2003 Server.
