Prevent Data Loss on Natural Disaster

Information technology has facilitated the storage and retrieval of data. Computers such as database servers and file servers store a large amount of data. Large organizations such as hospitals, government offices, private companies, and others have a form of computer storage.

I have read about news that tons of public records were lost due to natural disasters in Philippines and Samoan Island. Though the records are stored on database servers or file servers the physical location was not protected from flooding or tsunami. Thus, all electronic data on computer servers; data loss seemed inevitable after computer hardware was being soaked in water and mud.

A proper data storage practice could avert such a situation like getting some remote storage services or collocation services. Thus, backupĀ  data would not be affected in case the whole location where main data is stored suffers physical damage as in the case of natural disasters. Preventing unforeseen loss of data or information is an important part of information technology.

The only option left is to employ data recovery services to retrieve very critical information. These services might not come cheap as some would require very specific conditions and technology to retrieve data. An ounce of prevention is cheaper, and I believe a remote data storage, online data backup or anything similar would be the best solution in preventing data loss.
