Network and Disk Based Backup Alternative to Tape Backup System

Tons of data from every enterprise is growing daily. The management of data volume that needs regulation compliance, strict service level agreements, and the backup bottleneck is a challenge that every IT support face. The conversion of many legacy servers to virtualized server environment requires re-thinking of backup infrastructure. The old backup solutions might not work efficiently with introduction of virtual technology in businesses.

Well, data protection is on the forefront of every company’s interest. Added is the demand for rapid and efficient solution to disaster recovery as a primary need. This requires reduced backup size with longer data retention that can be replicated efficiently offsite for fast disaster recovery. These requirements are not met by the aging regular tape-based backup systems.

The next generation of data protection requires solutions that could cope with data growth and virtualization. In our IT division, the tape-based backup systems are slowly being replaced with disk-based backups and network-based backup systems. It would be better to implement use of a unified backup software that could centralize management, track performance and capacity growth of data. This could improve backup operations and disaster recovery management easier. Over-all the network and disk-based backup is recommended alternative to tape based backup system.
