IT professionals update themselves with the latest in technology news, trends, standards, practices, products and inventions by participating in technology conferences and forums. For instance, the recently concluded International CES 2011 at Las Vegas drew a crowd of international attendees, technology companies and top CEOs for keynotes. An event such as this makes IT engineers and professionals more knowledgeable about futuristic technology trends which are an advantage to their work knowledge and experience.

Attending technology conferences and trade shows involves traveling and staying at a hotel, unless a friend or family member lives in the nearby area. Most would just check-in at the same venue as the IT conference but they can also consider other options. For instance, there are Nags Head vacation rentals in NC or condominium units for rent within the venue location. The attendee should decide wisely on the type of accommodation depending on the duration of the conference. Most international IT conventions would have a tendency to fill up flights, hotels, restaurants, car rentals and other travel services before the event, thus it is best to book earlier to get low rates and even discounts.

If your work involves computer programming or software development, you will most likely devote much time seated at the laptop and the way you are doing this tends to have effects on your own health and fitness plus your productiveness. Proper computer posture is crucial if you wish to live a lengthy, healthful and pain-free living. Computer posture correction involves the right computer equipment positioning, the proper monitor viewing direction as well as the correct typing elevation of the computer system. This, together with the proper computer keyboard position, can appreciably decrease muscular-skeletal tension within the joints and muscles of one’s shoulders, neck, back and arm.

Are you affected by neck discomfort, a burning feeling involving the shoulder muscles, low back pain, head aches, digestive problems, respiration issues, vision stress and other health difficulties? Before being alarmed and thinking you have food allergies, planning an appointment with an allergist austin clinic, or thinking you have to see your eye doctor, stop for a moment first and take stock of your work habits in front of the computer. All of these difficulties could possibly be associated with the way you spend time at your computer for hours and hours every single day, hardly shifting position, your eyes set on the computer monitor with due dates to meet up with. Yup, bad computer posture could be the root cause of your head, neck and back discomforts.

The problem of the Internet becoming as a tool for malware authors, spammers, and phishers could not be denied. As social networking gains more popularity cases of email scam, Internet fraud, identity theft and a lot more are getting prevalent. I got even a surprising email this morning from a friend who asked a huge sum of money for being stuck in Wales, UK.

How’s that possible, when she’s in Canada? So, definitely some scrupulous people hacked her yahoo web mail account and sent the message to extort money. The full content of the scam email is as follows:

Hello,
How is work with you over there,I am in hurry writing this mail to you.I am so sorry for not informing you about my urgent trip.I am in some terrible situation and I’m really going to need your urgent help. Please I had traveled to Wales, UK,Yesterday for a
New Nanny job i got, Unfortunately for me all my money ,diaries and my return ticket was stolen at gun point On my way back to the hotel where i lodged , I am so confused right now, I don’t know what to do or where to go,I didn’t bring my phone here even if you dial it will only be ringing with no responds and i don’t have any contact off hand, so i have access to only emails, i don’t want to make a big scene of this incident, cos its embarrassing enough ,i will like you to make this private for now cos i never told anyone i will be coming here and at the same time i don’t want to get everyone at home panicking.

Please i want you to lend me a sum £1,360 Pound today, just to clear my Hotel bills and get back home, I shall have your money reimbursed immediately on my return home . Please Write me so i can let you know how to send it. I’ll be waiting on you at this Library for your mail because this is where i got chance to use free computer.

Sincerely Your’s

The email was sent to all in the yahoo contact address of her email account. We should be wary and vigilant of this kind of email. Many unknowing people have been victims of identity theft and scammers. What we need to do is check on those suspicious email on scamdex.com or hoax-slayer.com. A simple Internet search will surely reveal the scam nature of the email. The website above could hopefully help us spot scam and hoax email to prevent us from being victims.

Real entrepreneur has the guts to do the business, even if everything seems at odds. As the economy goes awry and job security has passed. Companies from left to right started laying off workers and outsourcing. I’ve got no choice, but to start looking for anew business opportunity which is home based.

Since, I am into IT for sometime, I believe it would be best to go into computer and Internet. Web application and web designing is a daily thing at work. Establishing a home based business on the lines of web designing would require little transition.

I envision to have a one stop shop that includes web design, web hosting and domain registration altogether. It’s expanding the scope of services to provide all the necessary things needed to put a business, website. It’s always a big problem for non-tech savvy person to have a decent web presence.

The initial step which is selecting between free webhosting and paid webhosting services is already a challenge. Difficulty in picking out from among the countless webhosting from free to paid services awaits. A close look on free webhosting services like blogger.com reveals that it caters to a different user group as compared with yahoo web hosting which targets businesses. Thus, depending on the purpose and the target audience the website would need to be customized.

Offering a web design coupled with web hosting service would be lucrative home based business. Most website that stands out from among the millions of web pages is likely custom made. Professional web design consulting service business would get you more time at home. Although running a web hosting and web designing home-based business have advantages; it still requires careful planning and dedication to succeed.

The challenges are unique, but once started your satisfied customer could help in marketing through the word of mouth the home-based website designing and website hosting business.

News of recession, outsourcing, downsizing which affects even big IT companies are really disturbing. Thinking ahead of a way to support myself when this kind of scenario come is important. Aside from the regular work, I plan to open up a computer training and consulting business. Something in the lines of software or web applications development. This would not be difficult for me as it’s all in line with the work that I have right now. The technical aspect of delivering the services of the business is not a hurdle. But what bothers me is the numerous government regulations and taxes to be accounted for every year.

I remember as a student helping the family run business. Business is a complex thing and it involves a lot of understanding of market and finances. Opening checking accounts to support the financial operation and keeping social security system (SSS) records of employees. Making the accounting books correct, which I highly suggest you get a qualified accountant to do. Accountants can be very expensive, but having their services will free you from headaches later.

In my experience, checking accounts are created to have more balance and check of the money flow. Most of the banks have checking accounts services, but these are premium bank services so they require a fee. I have encountered some banks like WaMu that offers free checking account services.

Let me share some services included in the ordinary free checking account:
- free checks
- free check safekeeping
- free wire transfers

Checking accounts doesn’t always earn an interest, but WaMu’s Platinum Checking account is an exception.

This is a premium checking account service have the following additional features:
- free bank checks
- free money orders
- free Identity Theft Services
- interest on checking account
- access through thousands of ATMs via Debit MasterCard

Running a computer consulting business with these flexible services would make financial matters a little easier.

There are iPod prizes for turning in evaluations, lanyards and badge holders have a chance also of winning the prize if they stay until the end of the conference. Anyway, as early as possible registration for the event are encouraged. Well, if you are coming from a distant place maybe you could consider also visiting some interesting sites while you are there like the Outer Banks which is a popular beach resort area. Outer Banks have several historical sites and is known as a hideout for pirates and a place of shipwrecks. This includes the islands where the Wright brothers’ first powered flight was done.

Educators go take this opportunity as a key to unlocking the power of technology in your schools. Join the NCETC 2008 Conference as strategies for enhancing technology use in education are formed.

The open source community brought about great talents and good software. How does an open source project especially a small sized one gets on going without any funding? I was looking into various projects in sourceforge.net and the list numerous.

I have seen that the trend for an open source programmer to get something out of the free development of software or systems is to put some wish list. Various programmers have different needs like some a cup of coffee, white wine, vodka, gin, chardonnay, or simply a beer. Others have some list of books, electronics or anything at amazon.com. Or a gift certificate could be bought also.

Another way programmers are getting something out of an open source project they have is through donations. Donations via PayPal can be seen almost in every great open source sites.

Open source projects sometimes get sponsorship from big companies. Most of the money goes for the infrastructure but I think a small part of it might go to the programmers.

The different ways to get funded for a project or get paid for something you’ve done for free should not be misconstrued as a compensation but more of a gift. It might be difficult to say how effective each kind and it depends really about the importance of the project and the size of the developers involved. I think open source programmers have done a lot in sharing the IT arena and they deserve some wine toast for their efforts.

Speaking of remote areas one might think immediately of jumping on into those hunting boots and marvel to the dense jungle rainforest trees. People are lured with the beauty and the thrill of visiting dense jungles of Asia or Africa. Progress in this areas are very limited. Internet might be able to change this situation. Thus, for those tasked of bringing the Internet to remote areas of Asia or Africa putting up an internet facility is big challenge. Maybe one would put on some hiking boots and tread on the jungles to survey for possible infrastructure site. Anyway, everyone is aware of the formidable task of bringing the internet to jungle areas. Installation of Wifii networks would be one possibility. Governments sometimes even have the program to provide subsidies for this kind of endeavours.

Internet was basically perceived to be for those of the ones in the cities or universities. This should not actually be the case as under developed areas will extremely benefit with Internet. Just imagine a farmer in China could pay for goods bought on the internet using a credit card online. Or the kids of a remote district in Indonesia accessing information from the web which is not other wise possible. I remember the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) which puts great efforts on making this a reality for children in developing countries of Cambodia or Nigeria.

There are also researches on implementation of alternatives like a satellite-based system that will provide people living in remote islands and rural areas the facility to connect to internet. There is a tremendous potential benefits in being able to give people in these areas easy access to all sorts of information from the internet. The exchange of information will be faster and a vast growth in education can be seen. Eventually everyone will be connected as part of the global information network.
